Home visits are performed by the doctors on medical grounds only, using the "Staffordshire Guidelines", i.e. they are intended for the genuinely bed bound, terminally ill or very elderly.
The nature of home visiting is such that under normal circumstances attending Durnford Medical Centre with an emergency/urgent appointment will provide a quicker response and higher quality of care.
Home visit requests must be made as early as possible by telephoning 0161 643 2011, you will usually be asked to have a telephone consultation with a doctor initially.
There may be a considerable delay responding to visit requests received after 11:30.
Please ensure your home can be easily identified from the road, e.g. house name/number and is safe e.g. dogs shut away etc. (Dogs often misinterpret examination as an attack on their owner and therefore must be in a separate room)
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
